A New Roof. A Fresh Start. How the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project Helps Veterans

For a veteran, home can mean more than four walls. It can represent the place where a family rebuilds, reconnects, and begins the next chapter after military service.

That is why a roof can mean so much.

Since 2016, the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project has helped veterans in need by bringing together Owens Corning, its Platinum Preferred roofing contractors, and charitable partners. Owens Corning donates roofing materials while participating contractors volunteer their services to install the roof. The program has benefited more than 775 veterans and is working toward its 800th roof in 2026.

A dependable roof provides something every family deserves: protection from the elements and greater peace of mind.

For veterans who have spent years protecting others, receiving help protecting their own home can carry a special meaning.

The program works with Habitat for Humanity affiliates to identify and qualify potential veteran recipients. Veterans interested in the program should contact their local Habitat for Humanity affiliate to learn about eligibility and the application process. A nomination does not guarantee a new roof, and projects depend on factors including qualification and contractor availability.

Protecting the Home and the People Inside It

A roof protects a family's physical home.

Another kind of protection can help protect the people who depend on that home.

For veterans leaving military service, Veterans' Group Life Insurance (VGLI) is one option worth understanding. VGLI provides renewable group term life insurance for eligible veterans, with coverage of up to $500,000. Veterans should review the applicable VA eligibility and application deadlines carefully.

Private term life insurance and other forms of life insurance may also be worth comparing.

The important thing is to avoid accidentally leaving your family financially vulnerable during the transition from military service.

A roof can help protect the home your family lives in. Life insurance can help protect the financial future of the people who live there.

For veterans and military families, both are worth thinking about as part of a larger plan for security.
